This project is developing a Water Management Plan for the Western River Basin District in Ireland. The plan is required as Ireland implements the European Water Framework Directive (WFD) and will include parts of Clare, Galway, Galway City, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon, and Sligo. The plan will cover over 12,000 square kilometres with 5,600 lakes, 14,200 kilometres of river and an extensive marine and estuarine area. The work is being carried out by a project team including: ESB International; WRc and White Young & Green; on behalf of the various County Councils in the region. Benefits - The Management Plan will ensure the successful implementation of the Water Framework Directive in the Western River Basin District in Ireland.
